The South Asian Studies Institute, in partnership The South Asian Studies Institute, in partnership with the City of Abbotsford, would like to cordially invite you to a music-filled evening, Mehfil: South Asian folk music and poetry. Event Details: Date: September 19, 2024 Time: 4-6pm Venue: K Building Patio, University of the Fraser Valley Address: King Road, next to Abbotsford Centre, Abbotsford. The following amazing local artists will be performing live: Devinder Kaur Johal: Devinder is an 88 year old singer and an author of 8 books of Panjabi poetry. In her writing and songs, Devinder explores themes of women’s empowerment, Indian identity, history, modern culture, and Sikhism. Daksh Kubba: Daksh is a singer-songwriter, musician and dancer who’s performed at many multicultural platforms including 2010 Winter Olympics. He’s also the lead singer and composer for the band naQsh. Harinder Saini: Harinder is a singer specializing in singing traditional Panjabi wedding songs. She is the lead singer for @raunkaanevents and has impressed Panjabi folk legends like Surinder Kaur with her talent. Gurmukh singh : Gurmukh is a singer and the founder of the music band, Musafir. He led the band performing over 500 shows in India. He migrated to Canada in 2022 and is now set to release his debut album, “Trapped.” RSVP: Please confirm your attendance by Friday, September 13 to sasi@ufv.ca.
