Provenance: 

Unlike the harvesting crew who were hired for specific jobs, Ben Ratzlaff was Sunder's permanent employee. He lived on the farm in a house provided. He often drove Sunder Singh to the gurdwara for services. Ben was paid $2 a day and worked twelve to fourteen hour days. Men who were hired for the harvest earned fifteen cents an hour except those who worked on the baler, who were paid eighteen cents an hour. - excerpt from The Reach accession information.
