Join us as we celebrate the launch of our exhibit, ‘We Are Hockey.’ The exhibit opening reception will feature a talk from UFV President Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Joanne Maclean. Special guests Harnarayan Singh and Randip Janda, co-hosts of Hockey Night in Canada, Punjabi Edition will be providing a keynote address.

‘We Are Hockey’ Team

Satwinder Kaur Bains
Satwinder Bains is the Director of the South Asian Studies Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley and is an Associate Professor in Social Cultural Media Studies, College of Arts. Her current research interests include: migration, settlement and integration; cross-cultural education and curriculum implementation; race, racism and ethnicity; identity politics; South Asian Diaspora studies; Sikhism and cultural historiographies. Satwinder has over thirty years of work experience in community development and has worked extensively in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion, organizational change andcross-cultural communication.

Sharanjit Kaur Sandhra
Sharanjit Kaur Sandhra (PhD Candidate) is the Coordinator at the South Asian Studies Institute, co-curator of exhibits at the Sikh Heritage Museum and a sessional faculty in the Department of History at UFV. Sharn is interested in looking at the affective experiences of early Sikh migrants in 20th century British Columbia. She has a great passion for activist work and engagement in the community through academia and museum exhibits.

Satinder Dhillon
Satinder Dhillon is an Art Director, Designer, and Illustrator, with a specialty in branding. He is a graduate of the University of the Fraser Valley’s Graphic & Digital Design program. His goal is to design with purpose and create conversation. Creating a lucid portfolio that travels through the abstract and conceptual so as to make it tangible. Approaching the world from a different perspective to solve problems while still asking the tough questions.

Shan Dhaliwal
Shan Dhaliwal is a Marketing Research Assistant at the South Asians Studies Institute. He is currently a third year Marketing Major at the University of the Fraser Valley, and enrolled in the Graphic Design program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. He combines his marketing and design skills to create an effective digital brand for his clients, in order to increase their exposure in the community.

Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel is a third year Computer Information Systems (CIS) student working as a Research Assistant for the South Asian Studies Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley. He hopes to pursue a career in the field of IT, specifically towards website development. His interests include reading about latest technological advancements, smart phones, and Android.
