Komagata Maru Centennial Commemoration

T
he year 2014 was a significant year for the South Asian community in Canada and as it marked the Centennial year of the Komagata Maru episode of 1914. It was a moment in Canadian history when discrimination against South Asians (under the guise of legislation), was confronted, and ended tragically.
To commemorate the Centennial, the South Asian Studies Institute created an exhibit to be displayed at the Sikh Heritage Museum at the National Historic Site, Gur Sikh Temple and commissioned a play in partnership with UFV’s Department of English.
