South Asian Canadian Digital Archive (SACDA)

history, archive, community history

Mandate:

The South Asian Canadian Digital Archive collects, digitizes, digitally preserves, and makes accessible, materials with significant ties to the South Asian diaspora across the country. We acquire or borrow archival aggregations held publicly and privately throughout British Columbia with the aim of digitizing and describing them to facilitate wider public access.

Plan:

  • Digitize, arrange, and describe collections for ingest into the digital asset management system (DAM).
  • Create digital exhibits to be hosted through the SACDA portal.
  • Design a front-end web portal for public access to thousands of digitized items.
  • Holding User Experience tests to ensure that the portal is user friendly.
  • Soft-launch the portal in Fall 2021 for stakeholder feedback.
  • Officially launch the portal by March 2022 for the public.
